9-Day Hiking Tour - Mgoun Summit & Ait Bougmaz Valley Trek
This is a realtively demanding and diverse trek for seasoned hikers. Starting from the Happy Vallery, Ait Bougmaz where you can experienced local hospitality, we ascend gradually over the ridge with spectacular Mgoun massif panorama and make it to the summit at 4071m. Enjoying camping in expansive plateau and meals from our gourmet chef and rest under millions of stars at nights.
Day 1: Arrival to Marrakech
You will be pick up at the Marrakech Airport by members of our team. We will escort you in our mini buses to the hotel where you can refresh prior to dinner. Here you will enjoy the opportunity to get to know your fellow guests and team as we dine together. After dinner, you will be offered a brief for the next day as throughout your stay to ensure you are always prepared.
Day 2 : Marrakech – Ait Bougmaz valley (4-5 hrs drive)
After breakfast, we drive towards Ait Bougmaz valley through Azilal, a small & old town that was built from the French colonial. We will stop here for lunch then we continue through the beautiful Ait Abbas and Ait Boulli valley and arrive in Ait Bougmaz. We will overnight at a gite or guesthouse.
Day 3 : Walk to Azib n Ikiss (7 hrs walking)
Today we start our hike up through the valley, giving us a chance to discover the life style of the local people over their daily life. This is a nice walk through a wonderful berber villages with a possibility to have a tea break at one of the local house. There will be a few breaks all along the way including a picnic lunch Stop. After lunch, we will start slowly our first uphill for the day, overnight in a camp near some nomads houses.
Day 4: Azib n Ikkis (2300m) to col n’Oughri (3450m) to Tarkdite Hut (2900m) (6 hrs walking)
After breakfast, we trek up Tizi n’Oughri (3450m), enjoying the spectacular view of Mgoun summit ridge. Then we walk down to Tarkdite plateau, continue to the hut. We will rest early at the camp and prepare for the summit tomorrow.
Day 5: Tarkdite camp (2900m) to Mgoun summit (4068m) to Sources Oulilimt (2600m) (9 hrs walking)
We leave the hut around 5am to climb Mgoun summit, 3hrs to get to the ridge of Mgoun and then another 2 hrs to the summit. At the summit, enjoy the absolutely magnificent views over the whole Mgoun valley! After a short stay at the summit, we will walk down toSource Oulilimt by the other side of the mountains. Overnight at the camp.
Day 6: Sources Oulilimt (2600m) – Ain Aflafal (2250m)
After breakfast, we walk down along Assif Oulilimt and enjoy its beautiful & unique geologic forms, possibility to meet some nomadic Berber people with their animals, continue to the camp near Ain Aflafal.Overnight at the camp,
Day 7 : Ain Aflafal (2250m) – Tizi n’Wensa – Mrabtine – Tizi n’Ait Imi (2905m)– Ikhf n’Ighir (1880m) (8 hrs walking)
After breakfast, we walk along the assif & visit Ain Aflafal, a natural fountain. Then an easy uphill to cross Tizi n’Tawenza (2600m), then down to Tinghmatine gorges to reach Mrabtine berber village. We will take a short break and have mint tea at the Berber house and then walk up Ouzighmt valley to join the path which will lead us to Tizi n’Ait Imi, visit of Tighermt n’Ait Ahmed. We will reach the pass after 5 hrs walking, enjoying the views over Ait Bougmaz valley, and easy walk down to Ait Imi and continue to Ikhf n’Ighir village. Overnight at the gite.
Optional if you would like to skip the visit of Ouzighimt valley, we can visit Ain Afelafal then Tighremt'n Ait Ahmed, then Tizi n’Ait Imi and Ait Bougmaz. (6 hrs walking)
Day 8: Ait Bougmaz(1880m) – Tizi n’Oughbar (2200m)– Azilal – Marrakech (5-6 hrs driving)
After breakfast, we drive back to Marrakech via Ait Abbass valley, Tizi n’Oughbar and Azilal city. We can visit beautiful Ouzoude waterfalls on the way back to Marrakech. Arrival around 6pm. Good time for a lovely hammam & spa or massage. Overnight at the riad or hotel.
Day 9:Marrakech – Transfer to the airport for the return flight
Enjoy some last-minute shopping in Marrakech. We will take you to the airport three hours prior to your flight.
